Superbug strikes 75 times in West

BY KEITH BOURKE THERE were 75 cases of MRSA bloodstream infections in the West’s acute hospitals during 2009. The number of cases has fallen but major hospitals are still struggling to prevent the spread of the so-called hospital superbug. A study by the Health Protection Surveillance Centre shows that, nationally, 335 cases of MRSA were reported last year. University College Hospital Galway and Merlin Park (35) had the highest infection rate in the country ...
